Igho Ogbu, delivered an outstanding performance on Sunday, scoring in Slavia Prague’s 3-0 win over Jablonec in the Czech league.
The defender capitalized on a defensive blunder from Jan Hanus inside the box, calmly slotting home to break the deadlock in the ninth minute.
His well-taken finish resembled that of a seasoned striker, setting the tone for a dominant first half.
Slavia Prague added two more goals before the break, with Thomas Chory getting on the scoresheet and Hanus netting an own goal. Ogbu, who was instrumental in his team’s solid defensive display, was named Man of the Match before being substituted six minutes from time.
The victory solidifies Slavia Prague’s stronghold at the top of the table, now sitting 13 points clear of their city rivals, Sparta Prague, with 68 points from 26 matches.
Ogbu’s Super Eagles Call-Up and Coach’s Praise
The 25-year-old, who previously represented Nigeria at the U20 level, has been included in the Super Eagles’ final 23-man squad for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Following the match, Slavia Prague head coach Jindrich Trpisovsky heaped praise on Ogbu, highlighting his remarkable improvement and the significance of his goal.
“Igoh usually defends the opponent’s best player and can be dominant in duels,” Trpisovsky told Slavia Prague’s official website. “He has calmed down recently, feels good and I think it was his first goal with his left foot in his career.”
The coach also believes Ogbu is undervalued in the transfer market and deserves greater recognition.
“He timed the whole situation perfectly and solved it perfectly. He is extremely important to us and his performances definitely exceed his current price tag.
If he played in a foreign league, his value would be much higher. He has become a complete player.”
Super Eagles Duty Beckons
Ogbu heads into international duty full of confidence, having netted his second goal of the season in Slavia Prague’s commanding win.
The former Flying Eagles defender will now join his Super Eagles teammates in Kigali as Nigeria prepares for their must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
