Striker Cyriel Dessers says he has no problem snubbing Belgium’s Red Devils for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Dessers is qualified to represent Belgium and Nigeria, due to his parents, but the 27-year-old decided to pledge his international future to the West Africans.
He made his debut for Nigeria in 2020, but didn’t return to the squad until May 2022 and he marked his recalled with a goal against Mexico.
He’s currently with the squad participating in African Cup of Nations qualifiers and he’s enjoying his time with the with his new family.
He said, he has no problem settling in the squad as some of the players have also played in Belgium.
“I have been very well received. There are a lot of players with a past in Belgium and many can look back on a good season.”
“Emmanuel Dennis (ex-Club Brugge) did well in the Premier League, Moses Simon (ex-Ghent) won a prize with Nantes, Victor Osimhen (ex Charleroi) doing well for Napoli and I played the final of the Conference League.”
“The Nigerian national team is good advertisement for Belgian football.” He told De Standaard.
