Former Nigerian midfielder, Friday Ekpo has said that the Super Eagles are no longer a dominant
force in African football.
In a conversation on Brila FM’s “No Holds Barred” with Ifeanyi Udeze, Ekpo argued that, “African
football has progressed significantly.”

“Nigeria still views some of these countries as small, but we need to step up as well. We are struggling to win matches against these teams.”

“We are no longer giants; we have become ants. We cannot hold onto the ball and just pass it
sideways. If we do not defeat Bafana Bafana in South Africa, our World Cup qualifying dream is
over,” he added.

Ekpo also pointed out the importance of playing players in their right positions to avoid further
issues within the team.

Currently, the Super Eagles are in 4th place, 6 points behind South Africa, who lead their group.
Nigeria’s next World Cup qualifiers are against Rwanda on September 3rd and South Africa on
September 6th.
