Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has dismissed suggestions that the team is ‘heavily’ reliant on Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen, who is behind only Rashidi Yekini (62) on Nigeria’s highest goal scorer’s list, has featured in only one of the team’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches – vs Rwanda.
The Super Eagles were previously winless in their group C campaign, but Victor Osimhen’s brace in Kigali inspired the team to their first victory.
Speaking in the pre-match presser ahead of Tuesday’s match against Zimbabwe, where another win could see them further close the gap on the top two teams – South Africa and Benin – , Ekong insists the Super Eagles are not a one-man team.
While praising their talismanic forward, the 31 year-old CB highlighted the contributions of other important players on the team on and off the pitch.
He also revealed that the players had a crisis meeting to discuss Nigeria’s World Cup chances and stressed that the group was determined to hoist Nigeria’s flag come the 2026 tournament.
