English one side Portsmouth Football Club have signed Nigerian goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi.

Portsmouth moved quickly to complete the signing of the 21-year-old, following his exit from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Oluwayemi joined Tottenham Hotspurs at the age of 10 and rose to become the undisputed U21 first choice, but failed to make the next step to the senior side.

Both parties agreed a one-year deal with the option of extending for another year.

He becomes the club’s fifth signing of the transfer window and will compete Josh Griffiths and 24-year-old Alex Bass, the latter also arrived few weeks ago.

“Pompey have completed the signing of goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi. The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal – with the club option of a further 12 months – after leaving Tottenham at the end of last season.

Oluwayemi trained with Pompey earlier in the summer and played the second half of the pre-season victory at Havant & Waterlooville.” The club said in a statement on their website.

The London-born shot stopper is the latest Nigerian to sign for the team after Kanu Nwankwo, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and John Utaka.

Joshua Oluwayemi is eligible for the Super Eagles and was called up to the national team in 2021 by former handler Gernot Rohr.
