Fulham and Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi has called on his teammates to remain focused and motivated in their quest for European football, despite recent setbacks in the Premier League.

The Cottagers’ hopes of securing a continental spot took a hit following a 3-1 loss to Everton over the weekend their fourth defeat in the last five matches.

That poor run has left Fulham sitting 11th on the league table with just two games remaining.

While the team’s form has dipped at a crucial point in the campaign, Iwobi has enjoyed an impressive individual season.

He has recorded 15 goal contributions nine goals and six assists in 36 Premier League appearances, making it one of his most productive top-flight campaigns to date.

Reflecting on the result against the Toffees, Iwobi admitted that Fulham had let valuable opportunities slip.

“Of course, it was disappointing. We felt we controlled the first half, and then they scored the equaliser, it probably boosted them for the second half,” Iwobi told Fulham’s official website.

“We had a few chances to put away in the first half, which we didn’t capitalise on, and obviously we’re disappointed to concede from set pieces yet again.”

The former Arsenal and Everton man highlighted the team’s ability to compete with top sides but stressed the need for consistency against mid-table and lower-ranked opposition.

“If you look at the rest of the season, we’ve been doing really well and we’ve been getting points against strong sides, solid sides, especially the top teams, but unfortunately, it’s games like these where we need to get the points that we haven’t been able to do so.

“I couldn’t tell you what it is, but whatever it is, we need to sort it out because we’ve still got a few games to go and we have to end the season as strong as we can. The season’s not done – let’s see what we can do.”

Fulham sit four points behind eighth-placed Brentford, who they face next in a crucial London derby on Sunday.

Their season concludes with a challenging home fixture against Manchester City on May 18.
