Super Falcons Coach Thomas Dennerby, Says he’s excited to see his team qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France after overcoming Cameroon in the semi-final of the 2018 AWCON in Ghana.
Nigeria booked a final spot after battling to a 4-2 victory in penalty shootout after the both side was unable for find the winner in regulation time.
A tired Dennerby told the media after the game that, the team’s target of reaching the World Cup has been achieved, while hailing the performance of the lioness.
“I said at the beginning that our target was to qualify to the World Cup, I am very happy we have achieved this goal. I feel very tired,” Dennerby said after the game.“
“They (Cameroon) are a good team, but I wasn’t happy with how we started. We lost the ball too easily but we defended well and that’s probably why we won. But we need to improve our forward play in the future.”
The Swede believes his side defended well against the physical Cameroonians but wants an improvement in the attack.
“We have defended well and restricted teams from scoring against us. Its a good foundation that we are hard to score against, but we need to improve our attacking play and the quality and pace of our passes.”
The Super Falcons who has now joined USA, Brazil, Sweden,Norway, Japan and Germany to qualify for every Women‘s World Cup since it was formed will now play South Africa in the final.
