Super Falcons have “Outgrown” African Competition – Danjuma

Nigeria has outgrown the competition on the continent in Women’s football and the next course; which seems now long overdue, should be measuring up to Europe and the best teams across the world.

The Super Falcons have won the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations 9 times and have become the standard for the rest of the continent, but to whom do they look for the next big challenge?

Those questions can only be answered by the NFF, says former Falcons Coach Christopher Danjuma.

“I have said every team in Africa says if you want to be in the World Cup all you need to do is beat Nigeria; that is their yard stick in Africa,” he told brila.net.

“Now we as the champions in Africa, what have we made our own yardstick. The continent is no more our issue, it is a birth right thing, we need to set up a mark for ourselves, but know it boils down to finances.”

“Our focus should be giving our teams more intercontinental engagements. We need to get a programme for the National team and structure it in such a way that we’re not focused on African teams again, our focus is to see how much we are rivaling Europe.

“It might not take a year, but it’s a long term programme and you’ll discover that we’re there. We are not relegating Africa but let our focus be on intercontinental competitions. In the four years period of preparation, I think we’ll become a more excellent side.”
