Super Falcons Striker Asisat Oshoala said the team’s aim is not to win the 2021 Turkish Women’s cup, but to get the team back in shape after almost two years without competitive match.
The Turkish Women’s Cup, is scheduled will has been scheduled to hold from February 15-24 and the Falcons is already at the venue, preparing for the tournament.
Randy Waldrum’s ladies will take on CSKA in their opener on Thursday at Emir Hotels Sports Complex before locking horns with Uzbekistan on February 20 for the second match and Equatorial Guinea three days later.
In a chat with brila.net from the team’s training camp at the Emir Hotels Sports Complex, Oshoala who is the captain of the side, insists that the aim is to use the tournament to get back their rhythm and not to win.
“We will just try out best to see if we can win it, but to be honest the goal is not to win it, the goal is to get the team back in shape.
“For sure we go to the stadium to give 100 percent, three games, the coach will also have the opportunity to pick the players.
“The competition is the first step in 2021 and hopefully it gets better,” she told brila.net
The Barcelona forward who refused to set personal targets for herself in the tournament urged the Federation to take advantage of future international break organize quality matches for the team.
“As a captain I just want to make sure the team is together and get what they deserve and also try to speak to the Federation to get this kind of tournament for the team and try utilize every international break to compete with the best in the world instead of staying without playing.
“Hopefully we get better on the pitch and in the area of welfare too.”
