Swedish club Mjallby backs Silas Nwankwo over age scandal

Allsvenskan side Mjallby said they won’t be taking any actions against Silas Nwankwo following recent age allegations levelled against him.

Nwankwo signed a four year deal with the club on Thursday, but a scandal over his real age has overshadowed the move.

Controversies erupted after Football Manager’s database from 2022 shows that Nwankwo’s date of birth is December 12, 2003, while another information, had it that the striker was born there on September 9, 1996.

In addition, an article from 2015 — where the striker led his Institution ESUT to the West African University Games tournament glory surfaced on internet and it established the fact that something is wrong somewhere.

Despite all the allegations, Mjällby were unmoved and stated emphatically that no action would be taken against the players.

The Club insisted that, they trust the player and his management, before labeling all the allegations as fallacy.

“I do not have any social media myself, but purely spontaneously I think this is very disrespectful. Some say he is 24, others that he is 26 and some that he is 32.”

“Someone had seen him partying in Mallorca. It’s just bullshit to keep doing that, Hasse Larsson, The Mjällby Sport Director told Blekinge Läns Tidning.

The Sports director added that, he’s confident that the age statement is correct.

“We are as sure as you can be, then we can not guarantee anything. He was selected in the U20 national team when he was 16 and why would he be selected there? They have had a body scan on him and there they see the age. There has been a lot of talk about this and that is why they do so in Nigeria.

“No, we trust this. Partly on the agent, partly on Thomas Andersson Borstam who has helped us. That’s what we can do, then what people talk and write about. It just gets naughty and is bad respect for him, says Hasse Larsson.u
