Swedish FA commissions 8.9 feet tall Zlatan’s shirtless statue

Few days after turning 38-year-old, Zlatan Ibrahimovic unveiled a bronze statue of himself, commissioned by the Swedish FA in his hometown outside the Malmo stadium, where he started his career in 1999 and the MLS record scorer expressing his excitement changed the S in Sweden to Z in a tweet captioned “we are Zweden”

In 2012, the LA Galaxy captain was honoured in Malmo with his name added to the Walk of Fame of Sports at the Stadium Square in the city. Three years after, works on the statue of Sweden’s all-time record goalscorer commenced.

The statue in honour of Ibrahimovic, Sweden’s all-time record goalscorer is the work of Swedish artist Peter Linde and stands at 8.9 feet tall taking four years to construct.

Currently the third-most decorated active footballer in the world, Ibrahimovic has scored more than 400 goals across his career for a number of top European sides including Barcelona, Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United.

Hundred of fans gathered outside the stadium in Malmo, he said ‘”You have players who win trophies. You have players who get statues. Then you have players who receive both trophies and statues, When you come to New York you have the Statue of Liberty, when you come to Sweden you have the Statue of Zlatan.’
