Taiwo Awoniyi desperate for Anfield return

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi says he’s can’t wait to face Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield.

Awoniyi was signed by Liverpool in 2015, and spent six years with the Kops without making a single appearance.

The striker was loaned to German team FSV Frankfurt, Mainz 05, and Belgian sides Royal Excel Mouscron and Gent.

However, Awoioniyi opted to cut ties with the club by joining Union Berlin in 2021, from where he moved to Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £18.6m.

Awoniyi, who is gradually settling into life in the English Premier League spoke with Supersport and revealed the team he’s desperate to face.

“For me to be honest, I’ll say Liverpool because I’ve been there before.

“I know some of the players there. I’d be very excited to play against them,” Awoniyi told Super Sport YouTube Channel with regards to the team he would be more excited to face.

Since arriving at the City Ground, the Nigerian international has scored once in three Premier League games.

Nottingham Forest will host Liverpool on October 22 in their first meeting of the season.
