Former Super Eagles defender Taribo West has highlighted constant communication between the defense line and the goalkeeper as a key ingredient for the Eagles in their bid to lift this year’s AFCON title in Egypt.
Nigeria’s opponents in Group B will not be easy and there could be a surprise at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles are up against two debutants in Madagascar and Burundi, plus an experienced Guinea in their group.
They will take on Burundi in their opening game at the Alexandria Stadium on June 22 – the first time the countries meet at the competition.
Speaking with www.brila.net, the former Inter and AC Milan of Italy defender also added that as the tournament progresses, they would be able to understand themselves, and will help the young Eagles side improve with every match.
“A lot of talking must be done between the defense line and the goalkeeper, that’s one thing I believe should be done during the matches….that is my advice to them, there needs to be a lot of understanding”.
“Its a young team, and they are just also working together so you should not also forget that in football, it takes time to build a strong team”.
“In as much as the coach is also working on them, and they are also playing together, in the fullness of time, they would be able to understand themselves and also bring about a solid communication that would make them to also excel properly, not just in the defense or goalkeeping area, but other aspects and areas of the team”.
