Team Nigeria dominated Team Ghana at the Table Tennis event of the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Victory over their West African neighbors in two Men’s Singles clash preceded another win in the double’s event.
Omotayo Olajide won three sets (11-8, 11-7, 11-8) against Abrefa Derek, while African number one Aruna Quadri overcame Asante Emmanuel, 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 in another game.
In the Men’s double, the combination of Omeh Amadi and Omotayo Olajide proved to be too much for the duo of Commey Emmanuel and Abrefa Derek – the Nigerians won effortlessly 11-7, 11-3, 11-9.
In the Women’s Singles, Singaporean Feng Tianwei edged Oribamise Esther in the preliminary round (11-5, 11-9. 11-4).
It wasn’t the best of performance for Fatai Bello and Edem Offiong in the Women’s double as they lost their second preliminary game 11-7, 11-4, 11-1 to Singapore’s Jingyi Zhou and Join Zeng.
The girls however are still hopeful of progressing.
