Team Nigeria end Tokyo 2020 Olympics on a Poor Note

Nigeria’s controversial Tokyo 2020 Olympic campaign ended with a whimper, but Team Nigeria leaves Japan with 2 Olympic medals.

 

Nigeria took 55 athletes to the games and also participated in 10 Sports, including Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Canoeing, Gymnastics, Rowing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Wrestling.

Blessing Okorodudu, 32, won Nigeria’s second medal after finishing second in the 68kg women’s freestyle wrestling to claim the silver medal.

Medal hopeful Blessing Okagbare was also hit with a ban by the World Athletics Integrity Unit few hours before her 100m Women’s semi-final race for failing dope test.

 

Tobi Amusan and Enoch Adegoke ran in the final of Women’s 100m hurdles and Men’s 100m Final, but they failed to win a medal.

 

In the Table Tennis event, only Edem Offiong managed to qualify for second round, while African number one Aruna Quadri, seven time Olympian Funke Oshonike and debutant Omotayo Olajide for knock out in the first round.

 

In the basketball event, The D’tigers and D’tigrees both failed to win a match at the game and they suffered six defeat combined.
