The revival of Dušan Tadić at Ajax

Serbia international player, Dusan Tadic received multiple offers to sign in different countries including the Premier League after leaving Southampton following poor goalscoring form, he picked up and left for the Netherlands to join Ajax, an option that was best for his career.

His move to Ajax was met with less excitement from the fans of Ajax as they didn’t believe in his abilities due to his stats at Southampton is that he does not score enough, but those doubts have been far cleared after Dusan Tadic performance with Ajax through to the champions league quarterfinal.

Eyebrows were raised when Ajax signed Dušan Tadić in June 2018. He had just finished an underwhelming season for a Southampton side who only managed to avoid relegation by three points. As a result, some found it difficult to see why they wanted him.

The fact that he would turn 30 soon and Ajax’s model for years has been largely based around producing young and exciting talent made this a strange fit.

Dusan Tadic admitted joining Ajax was hard “It was a difficult choice for me, I chose this because Ajax belongs in the best twenty clubs in the world. It was always my dream to play for Ajax. The club has great fans, big legends, big history and a nice conception of the game.”

It is not often that a 30-year-old is found playing the best football of their career, The Serbian playmaker whose parents were farmers, but while growing up Dusan knew he did not want a career in farming, forestry, fishing, mining or agriculture which were the immediate options available to him, he saw football as an escape route and has made it his trade.

Tadic, who joined the Dutch side last year after struggling for consistency in four years at English club Southampton, is now a reinvigorated figure who has been one of the most prolific in this season’s Eredivisie and Champions League with Ajax.

His favourite Premier League player when he was a boy was Thierry Henry and he had a soft spot for the “amazing” Arsenal sides that won titles in 2002 and 2004.

But it wasn’t Thierry Henry who inspired him in last week’s champions league round of 16-second leg victory against Real Madrid. Serbian midfielder Dusan Tadic said “It’s probably the best game of football I’ve ever played. Zidane was always my favourite player.

Maybe I was watching too many of his clips…” Ajax Amsterdam’s 4-1 drubbing of Champions League holders Real Madrid on Tuesday, Dusan Tadic laid on passes for Hakim Ziyech and David Neres to give Ajax an early two-goal lead at the Bernabeu then capped a virtuoso display with a thunderous finish into the top corner to make it 3-0.

Dusan Tadic was named UEFA Champions League Player of the Week.

Ajax is determined to win their first Eredivisie title since 2014 and is aiming to win the champions league after qualifying for the quarterfinal.
