The trials of brother Imama | Kelvin Ekerete

The trials of brother Imama | Kelvin Ekerete

“You are as good as your last result.” a statement that has been drafted into the football circle and mostly used when coaches, players or management are about to be axed or after they’ve been freshly axed. This quote directly affects a coach who helped Enugu Rangers clinch a premier league title after 32 year. Imama Amakapabo.

Imama Amapakabo will barely recognize or understand what’s happening to him or the team he tutored to the NPFL title some seven months ago but the situation reads dire for him and the boys in the cathedral. Currently sitting bottom of the NPFL table, crashed out of the CAF champion’s league and also on the brink of crashing out of the CAF confederations cup playoffs after squandering a two goal lead to Zesco United in Enugu, Imama must be thinking “where did we go wrong”

Rangers international flourished under former MD CEO Ozor Chibuzo as they claimed the league but after a unanimous agreement on the need to rejig the management of the team, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi announced the appointment of Mr. Christian Chukwu, to take over from Ozor Chibuzo. Is this where things started going wrong?

Things haven’t been the same after the appointment of former Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu to pilot the affairs of the flying antelope as some folks believe him to be a technical person rather than a man with managerial experience.

Imama Amapakabo confirmed his sack by the management of Enugu Rangers via his twitter account on Monday after series of poor results and majorly the unforgivable one against Zesco.

Imama is a man of few words but even the blind can see that things haven’t been going well with the NPFL defending champions not only on the field but management wise as they have not been able to settle players wages and estacodes properly leading to some of the players protesting earlier this year in faraway Algeria just before their first match of the CAF Champion’s league tie against Al Masry and they also recently lost the sum of four million naira just days before the match against Zesco. Things have just not been falling into pleasant places for Imama, his boys and Enugu Rangers.

Imama Amakapabo after his sack has said Rangers international is suffering from the success of last season but be that as it may, the quote “You’re as good as your last result” comes to mind but the question is, who’s to blame for the trials of Brother Imama?
