Patrick Pascal, the Team Coordinator of the Super Eagles, has responded to the criticism directed towards the players for their “carefree” behavior following their victory against Rwanda.
After Nigeria defeated Rwanda 2-0 in Kigali, Samuel Chukwueze, Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, and Alex Iwobi danced and celebrated in the dressing room, with videos shared on social media.
In an interview with Brila FM, Pascal addressed the criticisms, especially given the tense atmosphere surrounding their World Cup qualification hopes.
Pascal remarked, “Those criticizing them, football has evolved. Some of them are just jealous of these players. When Rwanda came here and beat us, didn’t they also dance? The current generation of players is different from when we played. Back then, there was no social media or phones.”
“In dressing rooms around the world, players celebrate after winning matches. People should not focus on that. These players are professionals,” he added.
Pascal also confirmed that the Super Eagles are fully focused on their upcoming game against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday.
