KRC Genk are struggling to score goals and as a result, their lead on the Jupiler Pro league table has been drastically reduced.

The Limburgers lost Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers to Southampton and Cremonese respectively, and brought in Tolu Arokodare and Mbwana Samatta as replacements.

While Samatta is struggling for form, Arokodare has been out since January, recovering from an injury.

After weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Standard Liege, Coach Wouter Vrancken admitted he’s frustrated with the unavailability of a striker in form.

“That is too much for us, the situation is bad,” Vrancken told Het Laatste Nieuws.

“We created chances against Standard, but we were not happy in the finish, because no natural striker,” Vrancken explained.

Asked about Tolu Arokodare’s situation, the Belgian said:

“He’s working hard to get back, I feel sad for him, he wants to help his teammates on the pitch. Maybe soon, but only the doctors can tell.”

The defeat also saw Genk’s lead cut down to just two points, but Vrancken says he remains calm.

“In any case, it will only be decided in the playoffs and now we just want to grab as many points as possible to maximize the lead at the start of the playoffs.”
