When two Elephants clash…like Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernando Torres did on Champions League night, insults filled the air like trees uprooted and devastation was left in its wake.
Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid thrilled football fans globally in a UCL semi-final match at the Vincente Calderon Stadium…while a few party poppers kept their eyes on the happenings at Saint Mary’s.
Merengues lost 2-1 but advanced to the final of the competition – in successive seasons – but it was anything but a smooth ride…no, not without hard tackles, foul mouthing and some of the most desperate scenes were witnessed as Vicente Calderon dropped its curtain for the last time to European football.
Its illustrious son, Torres fought gallantly, earning Los Rojiblancos a penalty which was duly converted by Antoine Griezmann to spark some life into the comeback bid of Diego Simeone‘s men.
But, it wasn’t just in his play Torres ‘rep’ the stripes, he did verbally against an insolent Ronaldo to, Yes insolent.
For a player often booed and whistled at the Santiago Bernabeu, bringing that attitude across town, wouldn’t be tolerated by the veteran.
The drama started after Isco struck what proved Real Madrid‘s head shot to halt the contest.
Three minutes from half-time after two quick goals by the host, the former Malaga man hit from close range.
During the celebrations, Ronaldo sparked fury from Atletico’s supporters as he directed a ‘shushing’ gesture towards them.
And in the next break in play shortly before the interval, Torres confronted “The Best” about his conduct.
‘What’s wrong?’ Torres asked Ronaldo. ‘Clown’ per Metro.
But Ronaldo replied with: ‘Go home, idiot.’
Torres continued to hurl insults at the former Manchester United striker, calling him a ‘son of a bitch’.
Real Progressed to final and Atletico left the grounds a little bruised…case closed.
