U17 AFCON: Burkina Faso wants World Cup ticket not Revenge against Nigeria

Burkina Faso head coach Brahima Traore says his team is determined to reach the FIFA World Cup at the expense Nigeria.

On paper Burkina Faso are the underdogs and will need something special to beat the five-time world Champions in the quarter finals of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algiers on Thursday.

Traore’s side found themselves in the last eight courtesy of a stunning comeback win over defending Champions Cameroon.

The gaffer says they’re expecting another difficult duel against the Golden Eaglets, warning his side must play as unit to stand a chance of going through.

“We go into the match with calmness but the enthusiasm to do well and achieve qualification to the World Cup.

“But, I have insisted with the players that we have to play together as a team and not individually. We want to achieve collectively as a team,” the Coach said.

Burkina Faso lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the final of the WAFU Zone B qualification tournament.

But the coach said he’s not thinking about revenge but the World Cup ticket as stake.

“Both teams have changed and most of the players who played then are not in the team. It will be a different match and definitely tougher.

“Our first goal is to reach the semi-finals and qualify for the World Cup, and we will do everything in our power to achieve it. Our second goal is to take the trophy to our country and win the title for the second time,” said the coach.
