U17 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria bows to Germany in first group game

Nigeria’s Flamingos start their 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup campaign with a defeat to European superpower Germany.

Bankole Olowookere’s team surrendered a first-half lead to eventually bow to the Germans in their Group opener in Goa.

Dah Zossu Alvine was brought in the 30th minute and Miracle Usani converted from the resultant free kick to give Flamingos the lead.

The Germans pressed for the equalizer but Nigeria went into the break with the advantage.

However, that resistance was broken five minutes after the restart, no thanks to a well taken strike by Svea Stoldt.

The Flamingos came close to getting their second of the game five minutes later.

Opeyemi Ajakaye was presented a superb chance after strings of attacks but couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Moments later Mara Alber struck what turned out to be the match winner for the Germans after the hour mark.
