U17WWC: Afolabi laments Flamingos’ World Cup semi-final defeat to Colombia

Nigeria’s U17 Women’s team star Taiwo Afolabi said the World Cup semi-final defeat to Colombia was a difficult pill to swallow.

The Nigerian girls failed in their bid to reach a first ever FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup final when they lost their semi-final match against Colombia on Wednesday.

After a goalless outcome in regular time, the match was decided on penalties.

During the shoot out, the Flamingos were handed an advantage when Jiwaku saved Munoz Yesica’s penalty.

But, Omamuzo Edafe struck the bottom of the post and Comfort Forlorunsho also missed the next kick giving Las Cafetera victory.

“It was a hard pill to take, as we lost our semifinal tie in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. Better days ahead,” Afolabi said after the game.

Colombia thus qualified for their first-ever world cup final and will face Spain, while Nigeria will battle Germany for third place.
