UCL group stage in sight for Amoo’s Copenhagen

Super Eagles midfielder Akinkunmi Amoo and his Copenhagen teammates are on the verge on qualifying for UEFA champions League group phase.

Copenhagen beat Turkish Champions Trabzonspor 2-1 in the first-leg of the final qualifying round in Denmark on Tuesday to give themselves massive advantage.

Copenhagen jumped off to an impressive lead within the first ten minutes, showing that they were unconcerned with Trabzonspor’s recent three-match winning streak.

The Danish giants, backed by their loud home crowd, took the lead, when Viktor Claesson fired a first-time shot into the bottom corner from a counter attack.

The lead was doubled few minutes after resumption, as Lukas Lerager reacted quickly to poke home the ball as Denis Vavro flicked a well taken corner to his path.

With ten minutes left on the clock, Trabzonspor gave themselves little hope as they managed to grabbed a consolation goal.

Greek attacker, Anastasios Bakasetas saw his range shot take a terrible deflection off a defender and roll into the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Amoo who recently returned from injury was on the bench for the game.

The youngster will be aiming to have a taste of action when both sides meet next week at Trabzonspor’s Senol Gunes Stadium.

The aggregate winner of the tie, will advance to the lucrative group stage of the competition.
