Kamaru Usman was taken straight to hospital after being knocked out by opponent Leon Edwards at UFC 278 on Sunday.
Usman came into the octagon with a 19-fight unbeaten run in the division and six successful title defense.
The welterweight champion was a few minutes from making the another successful defence, before Edwards pulled off a kick that sent him to the mat.
Edwards connected with a stunning head kick in the final round to leave Usman sprawled out on the mat, and Referee Herb Dean counted the former Champion out.
It was a an improve performance and deserved win for Edwards who lost to Usman in 2015.
Edwards becomes just the second champion from the UK, following in the footsteps of former middleweight ruler Michael Bisping.
Meanwhile, UFC promoter Dana White confirmed the trilogy between both fighters is likely to take place in the UK.
