Ugbade races against time to prepare “credible” Eaglets for AFCON qualifiers

With less than six week to the U17 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Golden Eaglets gaffer Nduka Ugbade is confident his team will be ready for the tournament.

Ugbade and his assistants were appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation last week and their first assignment is to qualify the country for the Afcon in Algeria.

The Golden Eaglets will face Ghana and Togo in the Group A of the qualifiers, while Group B has Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic.

In a chat with www.brila.net, Ugbade said, he’s confident they’ll put together a credible team, despite the short time.

“This thing is not hard. Me and my coaching crew will have to develop a module.”

” There is the micro and macro, which means there is always the long term and the short term plans, and in this case it is the short term.”

“The guys I’ve worked all over the country will have to come around and we can have like 100 players, then we can do the MRI scan.

” If we can get 40 who are okay, then we proceed to the next phase, which is about the physical condition, technicality, and the tactical aspects.”

“We have two matches to play in the first round, and we must win the first one, before we can talk about the next one. If we manage to qualify, then we are in semifinal.”

“Me and my assistants will do everything possible to make sure that, we achieve this goal,” He told Brila.net

The qualifying tournament will be played in Cape Coast, Ghana, from June 11 to 24.

The two finalists of this competition will advance to the 2023 U17 AFCON in Algeria.
