Under fire Ronaldo to miss clash with Super Eagles

Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be part of Portugal’s squad for the international friendly game against Nigeria on Thursday.

Ronaldo has been training with the team for the past few days, despite his recent controversial interview, where he was criticized of Manchester United’s board as well as manager Erik Ten Haag.

Portugal’s boss Fernando Santos has now confirmed that the superstar is out of the friendly against Nigeria.

Santos stated that, the 37-year-old pulled out of the game due to a stomach bug.

“It’s a condition that doesn’t help much, as it affects the players a lot, they lose a lot of liquid, they weaken. He won’t be ready for tomorrow (Thursday’s game) for sure,” Santos explained.

“If it were another player, we wouldn’t question it but yes, he really has gastritis and is in no condition to play.”

Portugal will depart for Qatar after the game and the former Real Madrid man is expected to be fit for the first Group game.
