Union Berlin’s Taiwo Awoniyi ends Bundesliga goal drought

Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first league goal for Union Berlin in the 3-2 away win over FC Koln on Sunday.

Awoniyi, who is on loan from Liverpool, played an important role in the victory against a side that also paraded another Nigerian forward, Tolu Arokodare.

The former Flying Eagles Forward opened scoring in the 27th minute with a fine finish after connecting with a pass from Max Kruse.

Koln hit back few minutes later through Ellyes Shkiri, who converted a pass from Ondrej Duda in the 36th minute.

Union Berlin had the opportunity to retake the lead when they were awarded a penalty, but Kruse missed from six yards.

The German midfielder however made amends when he scored the winner in the 72nd minute.

Awoniyi was replaced by Teuchert in the 73rd minute of the encounter, while Arokodare, on loan from Latvian Virsliga side Valmiera, was introduced in the 83rd minutes.
