Serena Williams was at her ruthless best as she dumped her older sister out of the US Open, securing a 6-1 6-2 win over Venus on Friday night.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion certainly didn’t go easy on her sibling, producing a performance she described as her ‘best’ since her return from pregnancy earlier this year.
While the result never appeared in doubt, there was a sticky moment on court for the 36-year-old early in the match as she rolled her ankle.
Though Serena seemed relaxed about the situation, she admitted she will be monitoring it closely on Saturday ahead of her last-16 tie with Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi.
‘I actually roll my ankle a lot so I was trying to get it as taped as much as I could and we’ll see how it is tomorrow,’ she said in her on-court interview.
