Uzoho needs help to make AFCON squad – Rohr admits

Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr says he’s worried over the fitness of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and has sent one of his assistants to work with the young keeper in his base in Cyprus.

Uzoho moved to Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta from Spanish La Liga side Deportivo Lacurona, after spending a season-long loan at segunda B side Elche.

However, The 2018 World Cup goalkeeper’s time in Cyprus hasn’t gone well with the player suffering from injury and off-field issues which has affected his performance.

However, the German tactician hinted that he has sent his assistant to work with the goalkeeper, pointing that the goalkeeper’s current situation is not about being the number one for the country, but needs help to be at his best.

“I have sent Enrico Pionetti, my goalkeeper trainer, to @anorthosisfc, to work on him. At the moment, it’s not, for now, a question of him being number one but of his being one of our three goalkeepers for the AFCON.”

Uzoho was in goal for the Super Eagles in their last 2019 AFCON qualifying game at home to Seychelles and his error allowed the tiny African nation to score a goal, but it was not enough to deny the Eagles victory.
