Despite starting the season on a disappointing note, Victor Osimhen has scored seven for Napoli in the last six matches that have propelled the Azzurri to the top of the Serie A.
His latest strike for the club came in the 2-3 home defeat against Spartak Moscow in Thursday’s Europa League at Diego Armando Maradona’s stadium.
Speaking on how he managed to turn his season around, the Super Eagles forward has the backing of everyone connected to the Club.
“They trust me and stood by me through the tough start last season,” Osimhen told BBC Sport Africa.
“The love I enjoy is massive – the club, the city, the supporters, and everyone connected to Napoli make me fly.
“I play for an incredible club with huge football history. I only have to focus and give my best all the time.”
The striker’s arrived at Napoli in the £70m deal from Lille in 2020 and managed to contribute 10 goals and 3 assists in 32 games his first season.
However, the 22-year-old is 3 goals away from equaling the tally with less than 10 games into the current campaign.
“Of course I am happy to be among the most expensive African footballers in history,” he added.
“I really want to get higher in the colours of Napoli. It was a childhood dream to become a professional footballer. I never knew this transfer or something this huge was going to happen.” he concluded.
