WAFCON 2022: We knew the Weaknesses in Nigeria’s Defense – Ellis

South Africa head Coach, Desiree Ellis has revealed how the team secured the impressive victory over Nigeria in the opening group game at the Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Banyana Banyana toyed with the defending Champions and walked away 2-1 winners in the opening Group C game.

Two quick goals in the second half secured all three points for South Africa.

Jermaine Seoposenwe broke the deadlock in the 61st minute, before Hildah Magaia doubled the lead two minutes later.

Falcons got their consolation goal via Rasheedat Ajibade deep in stoppage time.

In her post match conference, Ellis disclosed that her side exploited the weaknesses in the Nigerian team.

“We forced them to play long balls and we knew we can force them to make mistakes at the back which they did, the players delivered our plans,” Desire Ellis said.

“We have to focus, we are done with this game and we have to focus on our objectives for the tournament.”
