WAFU U20 : Ladan Bosso’s Flying Eagles bows to Ghana

Nigeria are facing elimination from the ongoing 2020 WAFU Zone B tournament after the 1-0 defeat to Ghana on Wednesday in Port Novo.

The Flying Eagles went into the game on the back of a 1 – 1 draw against Ivory Coast in the opening day of the competition.

Ladan Bosso’s side needed a win to stand in a good stead for a place in the semi finals, but a brilliant late free-kick from Precious Boah condemned the team to a costly defeat.

The Nigerian side were the better for much part of the game, but failure to convert chances was their greatest undoing.

In the 55th minute, Precious Boah’s header almost beat Oladipo but danger was averted.

Later, pint-sized Nigeria midfielder, Azeez Oseni weaved past two players but was blocked by Kobina Amoah for a corner.

From the resultant corner, the Flying Eagles had two goal-bound efforts cleared by the Black Satellites.

Wisdom Ubani also saw his free-kick go off target as the Flying Eagles pressed for the curtain raiser.

Ibrahim Danlad was at his best to foil Wisdom Ubani at the near post from a free kick.

Peter Olawale was denied from close range by Ibrahim Danladi when put on one on one by Azeez Oseni.

Precious Boah put Ghana in front through a expertly taken free kick which sailed past goalkeeper Kolawole Oladipo.

The defeat means the Flying Eagles have to wait for the result of the match between Cote d’Ivoire vs Ghana to know their fate in the competition .

Should Ghana beat CIV 2-0, Nigeria will progress to the semis, but if the game ends in a draw or CIV win, Nigeria will be eliminated .
