Wasteful Wikki Tourists punished as Remo Stars continues blistering form

Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC) defeated Wikki Tourists 1-2 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi in one of match day six (6) fixtures.

The Gbenga Ogunbote made only two (2) changes to the side that defeated Plateau 1-0 in Ikenne-Remo last weekend as Shuji Oshobe and Sunday Williams replaced Kamal Sikiru and Tolulope Ojo.

The first real attempt of the game fell to the home side, but Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole stood firm and denied them a goal.

Remo Stars then took the lead with their first attempt of the game in the 11th minute. New signing Dayo Ojo raced to a pass from Andy Okpe, and beat his marker before smashing the ball past the goalkeeper.

The host responded and should have equalised almost almost immediately, but Idris Moffid’s attempt hit the woodwork.

Former Sunshine Stars forward, Fuad Ekelejuoti got his own chance to put his team at per with the visitors but Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole pulled a great save again.

In the fifty-eighth minute, the host felt they had equalised but Stanley Okorom’s brilliant clearance tackle denied Abdulrasaq Aliyu from putting the ball at the back of the net.

Remo Stars then punished Wikki for the wasted opportunity as Abdullahi Oyedele doubled the lead for the Sky Blue Stars in the sixty-second minute.

Salisu Adama managed to halfed the deficit for his Wikki Tourists as he headed home Mustapha Abdullahi’s corner.

Wikki Tourists were gifted a golden opportunity to snatched a point with two minutes left to play as the referee awarded a penalty to them. However  Salam Ibrahim smashed the ball against woodwork before the ball rolled out.

The Sky Blue Stars did well to deny their attempts before the referee blew the final whistle.

With the win for the visitors, the Sky Blue Stars maintain their position on the top of the league, their second away victory this season, and they remain unbeaten in the NPFL alongside Rivers United.

Next for the Sky Blue Stars is a home against Abia Warriors at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
