“We came with eight players from Nigerian league”, Ekong on defeat to Ecuador

Defender William Troost-Ekong believes the Super Eagles gave a very good account of themselves and singled out eight based players in the team for praise.

The Super Eagles slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Ecuador with Faisal and Victor Mbaoma playing a part in the game.

Faisal played from the start and lasted for 45 minutes, while Mbaoma came on for Terem Moffi with five minutes left to play.

“We came into these two games with the will to win, we want to beat some of the best teams in South America, but the main thing is to try and improve and understand what the new head coach wants from us.”

“We have to remind everyone that we came with eight players from the Nigerian league, one started the game and made his debut tonight. We have to be proud of these boys who made their debut and we can be proud of how we have adapted to the new coach.” He said.

Ekong also admitted that there is room for improvement from the team ahead of coming matches.

“But there are plenty of things we need to improve the set pieces and this is the kind of games you want to play to find out your weaknesses and be better in subsequent matches.” He concluded.
