Gateway United coach Hakeem Busari said his side will now shift focus to the Nigeria National League, after their elimination from the 2021 Aiteo Cup.
Gateway United fairytale in the competition came to end after 4-5 penalty defeat to Bayelsa United in one of the quater final fixtures played on Friday.
The game ended 1-1 after regulation time, but Bayelsa United held their nerves to send the Ogun State bases team out of the competition.
Speaking to the press after the game, Hakeem Busari who once coached Bayelsa United said his is stronger stemming from theAiteo cup experience.
“We gave it our best shot, no doubt but we were edged out by penalties which is a game of luck. We have learnt a lot from this competition though we did prove that we are not pushovers in Nigerian football. We were dominant but it’s just one of those games when the better team does not progress. We have come out better, stronger and bolder”.
“We now shift focus on our remaining 5 games in the NNL. Iacknowledge also our teeming fans across the globe” he concluded.
