The goalkeeper coach of the Super Eagles Ike Shorunmu has informed brila that the team’s handlers’ have not been able to reach the injured goalie, Maduka Okoye.
Speaking on Sports Radio Brila FM on Wednesday, the former Besiktas goalkeeper said several efforts have been made to reach Okoye but none has been successful.
“I tried to contact him when we were going to the USA because we learned about his injury. I couldn’t get in touch. The team secretary also tried to reach him, via text message.” Shorunmu said.
“The explanation was that he needed to settle matters concerning his club as he just completed a move. But we will reach out to him perhaps when he’s settled and try to calm him down,” the coach concluded.
The Watford FC of England’s new goalkeeper was not included in the Eagles squad after he asked to be excluded from the 30-man Super Eagles squad to face Mexico and Ecuador.
All efforts to reach Okoye have proved abortive ever since.
Shorunmu was appointed as the goalkeepers’ trainer for the new dispensation by the Nigerian Football Federation earlier in April.
