What Kelechi Iheanacho has brought to Leicester City

Kelechi Iheanacho was among an elite club of Europe’s brightest youngsters when he left Manchester City in 2017. Leicester City welcomed him into it’s sparring constellation. Almost 18 months after, however, the Nigerian’s star appears to be fading.

When Iheanacho parted with City, he had a mission. Pep Guardiola seemingly didn’t rate the forward. He was out to prove him wrong. Not just the Nigerian, any other striker not named Jesus, with Gabriel as first name wasn’t good enough. Sergio Aguero almost traded his name for ample game time.

Judging by Iheanacho’s appalling form at the King Power, however, Guardiola is vindicated. The 22-year-old has plundered just four Premier League goals in 40 appearances, according to a report in Myphonefootball. That’s an average of a strike in 10 matches. Absolutely underwhelming. And he might need to learn some Football tips to top up his games.

While frequent injuries played a part last season, nothing of such has surfaced this term. Yet Iheanacho has been unable to deliver the goods. He’s found the net just twice across all competitions. Claude Puel is running out of patience.

He shouldn’t. Iheanacho is a penalty area poacher with the knack of being in the right place at the right time, in a similar mould to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He may not produce that odd slippery turns, flicks or dribbles but he is clinical when the opportunity surfaces.

Iheanacho epitomizes versatility. The Nigerian has successfully played in a variety of positions. On either flank, behind the striker, or leading the line himself, the forward has already proved how talented – and versatile – he really is.

Although the goals haven’t showered, Iheanacho is making up by turning provider for others. Puel rarely partners the Nigerian with Jamie Vardy in attack but they’ve impressed the few times together.

The Nigerian’s foresight complements Vardy’s pace and killer instinct. Which has earned the Foxes some decent points this term and helping fans get things right when involving in Premier League predictions for Leicester City.

Despite starting just nine league games, Iheanacho has assisted three goals. He can better that tally with more playing time while sharpening his own finishing skills.
