What went wrong for Kelechi Iheanacho in Super Eagles?

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho couldn’t see a minute of action in the last International break as the Eagles took on Libya in Uyo and in Sfax, Tunisia.

This has caused a lot of Football analysts to ask questions on what exactly went wrong for the former Golden boy.

Iheanacho was once a Golden boy after playing a significant role in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he won the Golden Ball award and Nigeria won the competition, in which Iheanacho scored six times, including once in the final, and provided seven assists.

He was selected by Nigeria for their 35-man provisional squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics but failed to make the final 18.

Iheanacho made his senior debut as a substitute in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Swaziland in which Nigeria drew 0–0.

His first start for the senior team was on 25 March 2016, a 1–1 draw with Egypt in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

Iheanacho joined the Manchester City team in 2015 via the Club’s academy.

There was a time Iheanacho was scoring 14 goals in 35 appearances under Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City, the overwhelming expectation was that a linkup with the incoming Pep Guardiola would raise his game to the next level.

He was unable to impress Guardiola who preferred Brazillian forward Gabriel Jesus – Iheanacho moved to Leicester City.

Iheanacho did not get any minutes on the pitch because former Watford striker Odion Ighalo was in a rich vein of form and not as a result of fitness concerns, according to a source close to the Technical Adviser.
”It’s not that Iheanacho is having an injury, he was not played for tactical reasons. Ighalo performed extraordinarily.
”He scored ten minutes to go, what if he was replaced by Iheanacho? Sometimes the coach takes decisions and it clicks for him and people will start hailing him.

”The coach knows his players and knows when to make substitutions as and when due. He got the results everyone is looking for.”
Iheanacho started the AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Seychelles but was substituted in both matches.

    Essy 1 year

First of all if we consider his background, as a player of Man City he already saw himself as having achieved and therefore lacked the motivation to excel.
Second, we have to look at his true age, which may suggest that he has already reached his peak. Instead of growing taller he has been growing fatter. Is it a case of Philip Osondo?
