Tanzania Head coach Emmanuel Amunike has justified the reason for including 15-year-old Kevin John who is popularly known as Mbappe in his provisional squad for the 2019 AFCON holding in Egypt.
John was impressive at just concluded Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations that Tanzania hosted last month, although they failed to pick qualification ticket to FIFA U-17 World Cup billed for Brazil.
The Tunisia 1994 AFCON winner also included another youngster Claryo Boniface from the under-20 side is also on the list.
” I always say when you are good you are good, any good player deserves given an opportunity regardless of the age,” Amunike stated categorically.
“Personally, I don’t believe in age but of course I’m aware that an underage player has to go through a process of development, the process of work, maturity, and learning,” the coach added.
“Why are we scared of using such a player if he’s good? The senior players today, started through this same process, for me, it’s irrelevant if we are afraid of infusing the younger lads into the senior national team with the view that the team might lose, The former Barcelona forward concluded.
John who is fondling called Mbape by his teammates scored once in Tanzania’s 4-5 defeat to Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets at the just concluded CAF U-17 African Cup of Nations.
