There was a mixture of bewilderment and amusement when Lionel Messi revealed his vast football shirt collection.
Throughout an illustrious 12-year playing career the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient has worn the most coveted jersey in world football.
As a consequence many have fought to swap with him and the Argentine playmaker has often obliged.
His immaculate collection includes a who’s who; from boyhood idol Pablo Aimar to adversaries Philipp Lahm and Raul.

However, there are some unusual inclusions, most notably a West Ham shirt emblazoned with Manuel Lanzini‘s name.
The Hammers and Barcelona, whom the 29-year-old has exclusively played for at senior club level, have never met. So, many are wondering how the shirt got into Messi’s hand.
Well, the answer is quite simple, the duo who are Argentina teammates swapped club shirts whilst Lanzini was recovering from a thigh problem in January 2016.
The 24-year-old, who is enjoying a stellar season, described the moment on instagram as a “dream come true.”
For it to take pride and place at the centre of the wall behind Messi would undoubtedly be a confidence booster for the 24-year-old.
