Why Trabzonspor can’t afford to let Nwakaeme leave

Trabzonspor should keep Anthony Nwakaeme at the club this summer and build around the Nigerian.

Nwakaeme, 33, has been the subject of intense transfer speculation over the last year due to his contract situation at the Super Lig side, with his deal due to expire this summer.

With no contract said to be agreed, rivals Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray have been heavily reported to be leading the chase to sign the Veteran forward.

Despite that interest, the newly crowned Turkish Champions are playing hard ball in their negotiations with the player and some reports suggested that they would rather look elsewhere, than meet his demands.

However, a lot of could go wrong next season, if Trabzonspor were to lose Nwakaeme this summer.

Nwakaeme has been Trabzonspor’s star man since arriving the Club in 2018 from Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Last season, he contributed 10 goals in all competitions as Trabzonspor won the Turkish Cup and subsequently the Super Cup.

He followed it up with another masterclass this campaign by notching up 10 goals and 11 assists in 24 games to guide the Club to their first league title in 38 years.

Since joining Trabzonspor, Nwakaeme has been consistent in the goal scorers and assist leaders board with 39 goals and 31 assists in total.

He also attempted 199 shots, 295 dribbles and 542 touches in the opposition box.

With these incredible contributions, Nwakaeme ought to be considered indispensable and failure to tie him down could prove costly next season.
