Zimbabwe head coach, Michael Nees has praised the facilities in Uyo as his team prepares for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on Tuesday.
Despite experiencing travel delays, the Warriors have settled into their base and are focused on the challenge ahead.
The Zimbabwe squad arrived in Uyo on Saturday after their flight was unexpectedly cancelled, causing a delay of several hours.
However, Nees expressed satisfaction with the team’s accommodation and training conditions.
“The hotel is fine, we’ve settled in. We were delayed yesterday because our flight was cancelled, so we lost a couple of hours,” Nees told the Warriors media team.

He also acknowledged the quality of the facilities, comparing them favorably to what is available in Zimbabwe.
“The hotel is very spacious, we cannot complain about that, that was the former hotel of Nigeria who has moved now to another hotel.
“You can see for yourself, we would be happy to have something like this in our own country; really very good, impressed.”
Regarding the training facilities, Nees added, “The training pitch is soft, not too hard. The stadium pitch, I expect even better.”
Currently bottom of Group C with three points, Zimbabwe is still searching for their first win of the qualifiers.
Despite their struggles, Nees remains optimistic about their chances against the Super Eagles.
“Nobody can predict anything. As a sportsperson, you have to fight until the end because everybody wants a fair competition,” he told The Standard.
The Warriors held a closed training session on Sunday morning and will have their final workout on Monday evening at the match venue.
Their opponents, Nigeria, head into the fixture on the back of a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Rwanda, while Zimbabwe played out a 2-2 draw with Benin Republic.

The match is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday.
