Aruna Quadri and Olajide Omotayo have been eliminated from the ITTF World Tour tagged Austrian Open after they were beaten by Chinese players in the second round.
Omotayo made a blistering start to the championship when he overcame Qatar’s Abdulaziz Bu Shulaybi 4-0 (11-8, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8) in the first round of the preliminary stage to set up a second-round clash with China’s Dingshuo Liu.
Like the previous round, Omotayo started like a house on fire against the Chinese but dropped momentum and his efforts were not enough to deny Liu the victory as the Nigerian conceded defeat at 4-1 (7-11, 6-11, 6-11, 11-8, 4-11).
Aruna Quadri on his part entered the fray in the second round of the preliminary but his bad form in competitions continues as he was sent packing in less than one hour as he was beaten by China’s Ziyang Yu 4-1 (6-11, 9-11, 12-10, 5-11, 10-12) to play his last match in the tournament.
This is the third competition in which Africa’s number one has failed to make an impression, as he lost in the early rounds of Paris championship and the Swedish Open.
