2026 WCQ: Finidi George Announces Super Eagles Squad

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George has revealed the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Notably, Udinese’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, makes a comeback to the team after an absence of almost two years.

 

Okoye is set to challenge current number one Stanley Nwabali, for a starting position.

In addition, the squad includes a mix of experienced players and promising talents.

Atalanta’s forward, Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Calvin Bassey, and Semi Ajayi are among those listed.

Midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Alhassan Yusuf, as well as forwards Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, and Terem Moffi, are also part of the selection.

Furthermore, the squad sees some new faces earning their first call-ups. Remo Stars’ full-back, Sadiq Ismael, is set to make his debut for the national team.

Turkey-based midfielder Fisayo Bashiru, Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella, and forward Paul Onuachu are also included in the roster.

Nigeria’s first match will be against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, 7th June, with kick-off at 8 pm.

Following this, the team will travel to Abidjan to take on Benin Republic at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Monday, 10th June, with the match scheduled to start at 4 pm CIV time (5 pm Nigeria time).
