9 saves, 1 penalty saved, 25 recoveries & 56 touches: Okoye proving critics wrong

Maduka Okoye was in great form for Sparta Rotterdam in their Dutch Eredivisie game against Vitesse on Friday night.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper was his element as he made an incredible saves to protect Rotherham from scoring.

The former Fortuna Duesseldorf man made total of nine saves during the match, including six saves from inside the box.

The Super Eagles shot-stopper also saved a penalty in the 64th minute of the match.

In addition, he made 3 diving saves, completed 4 throws, 3 high claims, 25 recoveries, 56 touches, had 9(22.5%), accurate passes, 1 key pass and completed 9 out of 40 long ball attempted.

However, the game was suspended when he was hit by a bottle thrown to the pitch by the home fans.

It was a commanding performance from Okoye who widely criticised by local fans for his underwhelming performance for the Super Eagles at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Super Eagles fans would be expecting him to replicate the form, when the Super Eagles face Black Stars of Ghana in the final phase of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this month.
