Paul Onuachu has been handed a late call up into the Super Eagles for the forthcoming African cup of qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
Onuachu was called up as a replacement for Moses Simon who suffered a hamstring injury while in action for Club Nantes on Sunday.
The invitation was confirmed on the official Twitter handle of the Nigeria Football Federation on Monday afternoon.
“@NGSuperEagles update: Paul Onuachu has been called up as a replacement for injured @Simon27Moses #SoarSuperEagles #Team9jaStrong,” reads a tweet on the official Twitter handle of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Onuachu was part of Nigeria’s squad for last month’s friendlies against African champions Algeria and the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
He featured in the game against Algeria but was left on the bench for the entire duration of the second game against Tunisia.
The 26-year-old former Midtjylland forward has scored nine goals in 10 league appearances for Genk this season.
The Super Eagles will host the Leone Stars on Friday, November 13 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, while the reverse fixture is scheduled for the Siaka Stevens Stadium, Freetown.
