Kevin Akpoguma says he is happy to make his debut for Nigeria and looking forward to helping the country reach the 2022 African cup of Nations.
The Hoffenheim defender came on as a second-half substitute in Super Eagles 1 – 0 defeat to African champions Algeria in Austria on Friday.
Akpoguma was impressive in the and help provide cover for the goalkeeper when he was introduced for Tyronne Ebuehi in the 65th minute of the encounter.
Speaking after the game, Akpoguma said he’s proud to make his debut for Nigeria and already looking forward to earning more caps for the Gernot Rohr tutored side.
“I’m proud to be part of the Nigerian team, we are looking forward to winning the next game, of course, lost today and I think we played against one of the best teams in Africa, we tried our best to get a draw.” He told Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba.
“As I said, it’s just a test game, the coach is looking at where we can improve and the most important thing is for us to qualify for the African cup of Nations.” He said.
