Austin Eguavoen dumps struggling Sunshine after just 45 days

Austin Eguavoen has resigned as Sunshine Stars Coach after five matches (45 Days) in-charge of the struggling NPFL club.

The club made the announcement on its twitter handle on Friday and have also named former assistant Coach, Akin Olowookere as the Interim Head Coach. In the tread of tweets, the club also appointed Ogunderu Boye as assistant.

The appointment takes immediate effect.

Sunshine stars thanked the former Super Eagles Coach “for his time with us”

Austin Eguavoen, who was appointed in April as replacement for Kayode Olujohungbe, won only two of his five league matches in charge, including a 2-0 victory against League champions Enugu Rangers.

However, there had been indications the 51-year-old might throw in the towel after his open criticism of match officials following what the club described as controversial officiating in the side’s last two games.

The Owena Waves lost 1-0 to Shooting Stars in a southwest derby and were stunned 2-1 at home by Plateau United.

The Akure-based club are currently 17th on the log and are threatened with relegation after 23 matches.
