Austin Eguavoen, who was appointed in April as replacement for Kayode Olujohungbe, won only two of his five league matches in charge, including a 2-0 victory against League champions Enugu Rangers.
However, there had been indications the 51-year-old might throw in the towel after his open criticism of match officials following what the club described as controversial officiating in the side’s last two games.
The Owena Waves lost 1-0 to Shooting Stars in a southwest derby and were stunned 2-1 at home by Plateau United.
The Akure-based club are currently 17th on the log and are threatened with relegation after 23 matches.
