Ayew and Amartey let Ghana down — Efan Ekoku

Former Nigeria international Efan Ekoku blamed Andre Ayew and Daniel Amartey for Ghana’s exit from the World Cup in Qatar.

Black Stars of Ghana have crashed out of ongoing FIFA World Cup, losing final Group game to Uruguay 2-0.

The former African Champions came into the game needing just a point to qualify for round of 16, but failed to take early chances presented to them.

Andre Ayew missed a penalty in the 21st minute before poor defending allowed Giorgian de Arrascaeta to hit a first-half double to put Uruguay 2-0 up at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Efan Ekoku, who is on commentary duty for the World Cup world feed, was unimpressed with the performance of the senior players, including Ayew and Amartey.

“Not clever play at all from Ayew, communication perhaps lacking. That’s got to be dealt with, not once but twice,”

“No reason for Daniel Amartey to go to ground, he’s under no pressure. That’s a wild swing, off balance.

“It’s a decent save from the goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi. He will be disappointed that one of his teammates was not able to clear that. Just a little bit outnumbered on the far post. As simple as you like 1-0.”

“Luis Suarez with a clever flick, the awareness. And any kind of ball, enough pace on it before he is closed down by Daniel Amartey who’s going to make it difficult.” He concluded.
